Tensions flared in Hyderabad as a video featuring BJP candidate Madhavi Latha’s actions during a Ram Navami Yatra circulated widely, sparking controversy just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. In the video, Latha is seen simulating shooting an arrow, reportedly aimed at a mosque during the Ram Navami procession.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi swiftly responded to the video, condemning the BJP’s actions as “vulgar and provocative.” Owaisi questioned whether this gesture aligned with the BJP’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) and emphasized the importance of peace in Hyderabad, urging voters to reject such actions.

In response to the backlash, Madhavi Latha issued an apology, clarifying that the video was incomplete and expressing regret if anyone’s sentiments were hurt. However, her previous statements during the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra, where she questioned the rights of the Muslim community to celebrate Ramadan and criticized the Owaisi brothers, had already sparked considerable controversy.

The incident highlights the delicate interplay of religious sentiments and political campaigns, underscoring the need for responsible conduct during such sensitive events, especially in diverse communities like Hyderabad. As the elections draw closer, this controversy adds another layer of complexity to the electoral discourse in the region.
